The short answer

Yarra Valley Skip Bins publishes its 4 m³ skip as 3.2 × 1.6 × 1.0 m (at the top edge) and ASAP Bin Hire as 3.2 × 1.5 × 0.9 m, though shorter, taller skips are sold as 4 m³ too. In the east, Yarra Valley publishes $595 for a light mixed load up to 1.0 tonne, ASAP $470.00 for general waste, and Boss Bin Hire from $495. It suits a bathroom strip-out or a garage clean-out, and a standard bath fits its length.

4m3 skip bin dimensions

”4 m³” is a volume, and fleets build it in different shapes. Here’s what each publishes:

4 m³ skip dimensions by company

CompanyLength × width × height
Yarra Valley Skip Bins, Dixons Creek3.2 × 1.6 × 1.0 m (length and width at the top edge)
ASAP Bin Hire, Kilsyth3.2 × 1.5 × 0.9 m
WM Waste, Boronia: 4 m³ skip2.4 × 1.5 m at the top, 2.0 × 1.25 m at the base, 1.4 m high
WM Waste, Boronia: 4 m³ walk-in bin3.8 × 1.55 × 0.68 m
Bin Hire Melbourne, Preston (covers the east)3.31 × 1.60 × 0.97 m

As each company publishes them. Most don’t say where they measure; skips taper towards the base. Checked 5 November 2026.

So there are two kinds of 4 m³ bin. WM Waste explains the difference: its skips (2 to 4 m³) are “smaller at the bottom and larger at the top”, while its walk-in bins, from 4 m³ up, have a back end that opens so you can walk in. A walk-in door lets you wheel a barrow in. Yarra Valley, ASAP and Bin Hire Melbourne all describe their 4 m³ bins as having a door.

Each row is one company’s published price, not ours. None of the three states whether GST is included, and council permits are extra. ASAP’s main table is shown; the same page carries a second, slightly higher price guide. Checked 5 November 2026.

The waste type changes the price more than the size does. A bathroom’s tiles count as heavy waste: ASAP’s general waste skip won’t take them, and its commercial waste skip will.

Heavy waste reaches the limit before the skip looks full: see skip bin weight limits.

Will a bath fit in a 4 m³ skip?

Yes. A standard 1,675 mm bath, such as Decina’s Fabrino at 1,675 × 765 mm, takes about half the length of Yarra Valley Skip Bins’ 3.2 m skip by our arithmetic, and it’s shorter and narrower than every published 4 m³ length and width above, including the 2.0 × 1.25 m base of WM Waste’s tapered skip. WM Waste’s 2018 renovation guide suggests “For a large bathroom, you will be safe with a 4m cubic metre skip.”

Weight matters more than space. Tiles, render and screed count towards a heavy load, and Yarra Valley’s 4 m³ heavy limit is 1.3 tonnes. Tell the skip company what’s going in. For worked bathroom and kitchen sizes, bath weights and why a 2 m³ mini skip is too short, see what size skip for a renovation.

What a 4 m³ skip suits

  • Boss Bin Hire calls its 4 m³ skip “Ideal for larger garden, household and commercial rubbish removal.”
  • United Skip Bin Hire says 4 to 6 m³ skips are “ideal for household renovations or spring cleaning”.
  • Our rule of thumb: a garage or shed clean-out, a big garden clean-up, or one bathroom. For a kitchen, see the 6 cubic metre skip bin.

How many trailer loads and wheelie bins a 4 m³ skip holds

Companies count it differently. WM Waste says a 4 m³ skip is 6 to 7 trailer loads on its dimensions page and 7 in its FAQ; Trailer Trash says 6 box trailers and 16 wheelie bins. By our arithmetic, 4 m³ is about 4.7 level 6x4 trailer loads (at 0.86 m³ each, loaded to 0.4 m) or 16 wheelie bins (at 0.24 m³ each). The size finder works it out from your own count.

Fitting a 4 m³ skip on your driveway

On your own driveway, no permit is needed. Yarra Valley Skip Bins asks for an access driveway 3 m wide with 3.5 m of overhead clearance. On the road or council land, the skip company applies for a council permit: every 4 m³ bin above is 1.4 m high or less, under Knox’s 1.5 m height limit for skips on council land. See skip bin permits for each council’s fee.

Common questions

What are the dimensions of a 4m3 skip bin?

It depends on the fleet. Yarra Valley Skip Bins publishes 3.2 × 1.6 × 1.0 m (at the top edge), ASAP Bin Hire 3.2 × 1.5 × 0.9 m, and Bin Hire Melbourne 3.31 × 1.60 × 0.97 m. WM Waste’s 4 m³ skip is shorter and taller: 2.4 × 1.5 m at the top and 1.4 m high.

How much is a 4 cubic metre skip bin?

In the east, Yarra Valley Skip Bins publishes $595 for a light mixed load up to 1.0 tonne, ASAP Bin Hire $470.00 for general waste, and Boss Bin Hire from $495. Heavy and clean-fill loads are priced separately. Council permits are extra.

Will a bath fit in a 4m3 skip bin?

Yes. A standard 1,675 mm bath takes about half the length of a 3.2 m skip, and it’s shorter and narrower than every published 4 m³ length and width listed here. Weight is the bigger question: tiles and rubble count towards a heavy-load limit, 1.3 tonnes in Yarra Valley Skip Bins’ 4 m³ skip.

How much weight can a 4m3 skip hold?

Each company sets its own limit. Yarra Valley Skip Bins allows 1.0 tonne of light mixed waste or 1.3 tonnes of heavy mixed waste; WM Waste allows 1.25 tonnes of light material in its 4 m³ skip.

Can I put soil in a 4 m³ skip?

Yes, if it’s booked as soil. Yarra Valley Skip Bins prices a 4 m³ skip of 100% dry dirt at $495, filled level with the top edge; ASAP Bin Hire’s clean fill is $450.00. EPA Victoria’s figure for stockpiled soil is 1.8 tonnes per m³, so a full skip is heavy.

Is a 4 m³ skip big enough for a kitchen?

Often not on its own: a kitchen’s cabinets are bulky, and the next size up, 6 m³, is the usual choice. By our rule of thumb, a 4 m³ suits one bathroom or a garage clean-out.
