Yarra Valley Skip Bins offers no single-material skip above 8 m³, and Bin Hire Melbourne lists its heavy mixed and 100% concrete bins only up to 8 m³. An 8 m³ skip on the road: the 1.5 m height rule
On your own driveway, no permit is needed. On the road or council land, the skip company applies for a permit, and at 8 m³ the bin’s height starts to matter in two councils:
- Knox limits a skip on council land to 7.5 m long, 2.5 m wide and 1.5 m high.
- Monash says an “Occupy Roadway Permit required for skip bins exceeding 20m3 volume and/or exceeding 1.5m height”: a different permit from its skip bin permit.
Published 8 m³ heights sit right around that line: 1.5 m for Yarra Valley Skip Bins, 1.55 m for Bin Hire Melbourne and 1.6 m for ASAP Bin Hire’s skip, against 0.8 m for ASAP’s hook lift.
