Glen Waverley was called Black Flat before its name was settled in 1905, taken from a township named after Sir Walter Scott’s Waverley novels. Eastern Skip Hire delivers skips across Glen Waverley, from the streets around Kingsway to the homes by the Dandenong Creek parklands on its eastern edge.
Glen Waverley shares the 3150 postcode with Wheelers Hill, also in Monash. Across Dandenong Creek, Wantirna South is in Knox, with a different permit for a skip on the road. Monash doesn’t allow skips on arterial roads, so on a main road the skip goes on your driveway.
A skip on the street in Glen Waverley
On your driveway, no permit is needed. On the road or nature strip, the City of Monash wants a permit first, and the skip company applies for it, so we arrange it when the skip can’t fit on your property.

Glen Waverley homes: big houses, and plenty of rebuilds
Half of Glen Waverley’s homes have four or more bedrooms, by the 2021 Census, and new houses keep going up.
- 49.3%of homes have four or more bedrooms (Victoria: 32.6%)
- 41.0%are owned outright (Victoria: 32.2%)
- 925new houses approved in the five years to June 2026 (ABS building approvals, our sum)
In a suburb this built-up, many of those new houses are on lots that had an older house, by our reading. The clear-out before a sale or a rebuild, and the renovation of a 1960s house, are the jobs a skip suits; the demolition itself is the builder’s. Glen Waverley grew fast in the 1960s, much of it on private estates.
Around the station, the Suburban Rail Loop precinct zone took effect on 6 July 2026, and a tunnel boring machine began heading towards Glen Waverley in September 2026, Victoria’s Big Build says.
Garden clean-ups in Monash’s tree protection area
About 47% of Glen Waverley’s homes are in Monash’s Tree Protection Area, Schedule 1 of the Vegetation Protection Overlay, by our count of Vicmap addresses.
There, a permit is needed to remove or destroy a tree only if both tests are met: a trunk more than 500 mm round at 1.2 m above the ground, and a height of more than 10 m. Dead trees are exempt, and so are willows, radiata pines, evergreen alders, sweet pittosporums and desert ashes. Monash gives free advice to residents in these areas who aren’t sure whether they need a permit.
Around the station, about 23% of homes are in the Suburban Rail Loop precinct zone, by our count, where the rules differ: check VicPlan or ask Monash before removing a tree there.
Outside the precinct zone, a state-wide rule applies. In most residential zones (not Low Density Residential), Clause 52.37 needs a permit to remove, destroy or lop a canopy tree at least 5 m tall with a canopy averaging at least 4 m across. On a block with a house, that narrows to trees with any part of the trunk within 6 m of the narrowest street frontage or 4.5 m of the rear boundary. A dead tree is exempt. Look up your block on VicPlan, or ask the council, before you cut.
Dandenong Creek and flash flooding
Dandenong Creek forms Glen Waverley’s eastern edge, with about 67 hectares of the Dandenong Valley Parklands inside the suburb, by our count, and Scotchmans Creek rises in its north-east.
The SES lists Glen Waverley first among the places in Monash at risk of flooding. Its Monash guide names the Syndal rail underpass on Blackburn Road, where four cars had to be pulled out in the February 2011 flood, and Springvale Road between The Boulevard and Aurish Avenue among the flash-flood spots.

Common questions
How does Monash’s hard waste collection work from 2027?
Residents book their own collection from 2027. Until then it was one annual collection, which in 2026 ran from 13 July to 4 September. Monash says people in apartments and other multi-unit buildings may not be eligible, and should check with their building manager or body corporate first.
Where can I drop off old batteries in Glen Waverley?
At the Monash Civic Centre, 293 Springvale Road, one of the council’s battery drop-off points. Batteries and other e-waste can’t go in a skip: they’re banned from landfill in Victoria.
