Mount Waverley takes its “Mount” from the rise above a deep valley to its south, and runs from Huntingdale Road east to Blackburn Road. Eastern Skip Hire delivers skips across Mount Waverley, from the late-1950s streets around Pinewood to the new houses going up between them.

Mount Waverley is all City of Monash, with its own 3149 postcode, and the council’s tip is right on its doorstep: the Monash Recycling and Waste Centre sits just across Ferntree Gully Road, on the suburb’s southern edge.

A skip on the street in Mount Waverley

On your driveway, no permit is needed. On the road or nature strip, the City of Monash wants a permit first, and the skip company applies for it, so we arrange it when the skip can’t fit on your property.

  • Highest fee in the east

    Monash

An accredited supplier applies at least 2 days ahead. Skips aren’t allowed on arterial roads.

Fee: $327.60 on local roads (1 week max.), or $331.80 at activity and shopping centres (2 hours, 7am to 9am) (2026–27)

Every council’s rule side by side: skip bin permits in Melbourne’s east.

Mount Waverley homes: renovations and rebuilds

Big, long-held family homes, by the 2021 Census, and a steady run of new houses.

  • 41.9%of homes are owned outright (Victoria: 32.2%)
  • 43.4%have four or more bedrooms (Victoria: 32.6%)
  • 703new houses approved in the five years to June 2026 (ABS building approvals, our sum)

By our arithmetic, that’s about eight new houses for every hundred existing ones in five years. Stripping out a kitchen, bathroom or carpets, or clearing a family home before it’s sold or rebuilt, are the jobs a skip suits here. Tell us the waste, and we’ll match the size.

Garden clean-ups: almost every home has a tree rule

About 49% of Mount Waverley’s homes are in Monash’s Tree Protection Area, and about 92% are in zones where the state-wide canopy tree rule applies, by our count of Vicmap addresses.

In the Tree Protection Area, a permit is needed to remove or destroy a tree more than 10 m tall with a trunk more than 500 mm round at 1.2 m; dead trees and a short list of weed trees are exempt. Monash gives free advice to residents who aren’t sure whether a tree needs a permit, so ask before a rebuild takes a big tree out.

A state-wide rule applies on top of that. In most residential zones (not Low Density Residential), Clause 52.37 needs a permit to remove, destroy or lop a canopy tree at least 5 m tall with a canopy averaging at least 4 m across. On a block with a house, that narrows to trees with any part of the trunk within 6 m of the narrowest street frontage or 4.5 m of the rear boundary. A dead tree is exempt. Look up your block on VicPlan, or ask the council, before you cut.

Scotchmans and Damper creeks

Pinewood Reserve sits at the head of Scotchmans Creek, which runs through Mount Waverley in a linear park with flood retarding basins.

Damper Creek begins just south of High Street Road near Stephensons Road, Monash’s flood plan says, with the Damper Creek reserve north of the station. The SES lists Mount Waverley among the places in Monash at risk of flooding. If the skip has to go on the road, Monash’s permit covers where it can sit.

Common questions

Where’s the tip for Mount Waverley?

The Monash Recycling and Waste Centre, at 380 Ferntree Gully Road, Notting Hill, just across the road from Mount Waverley’s southern edge. It’s open 7:30am to 3pm, seven days. Since 1 July 2025, fees apply if you’re not a Monash resident or ratepayer. It has limited capacity for soil, so call before taking any, and it doesn’t take asbestos.

Where can I get rid of old paint and household chemicals?

Not in a skip. The state’s free Detox Your Home events, now run by the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action, take household chemicals, and anyone in Victoria can go to any event. The nearest listed for late 2026 is at the Boroondara Recycling and Waste Centre in Camberwell, on Saturday 7 November.
