Hard rubbish and skip permit finder
Choose your suburb to see how your council’s hard rubbish collection works, and what it asks for a skip on the road or nature strip, with links to the council’s own pages.
All six councils in Melbourne’s east are listed below. Choose a suburb to see just yours.
Kilsyth is split between two councils. Most of it is in the Shire of Yarra Ranges. A strip along the western side next to Croydon, west of Glen Dhu Road and Colchester Road, is in the City of Maroondah: streets such as Landstrom Quadrant, Byron Road, Tennyson Avenue, Browning Street and Churchill Way, and the west side of Colchester Road. By our count of Vicmap addresses, that’s about 15% of Kilsyth’s homes. Your rates notice or VicPlan shows your council, and if the skip has to go on the road, the skip supplier needs that council’s permit.

Common questions about hard rubbish and skip permits
Do I need a council permit for a skip on my driveway?
No. None of the six councils here needs a permit for a skip that sits wholly on your property, such as your driveway or front yard. A skip on the road, nature strip or other council land needs a permit.
Who applies for the skip permit?
The skip company, in every council here. Knox says it can only issue a permit to a skip bin provider, and Manningham that residents, property owners or builders cannot apply on behalf of a supplier.
How do I know which council I’m in?
Your rates notice names it, and the state’s VicPlan map shows it for any address. Most suburbs sit in one council, but some are split: most of Kilsyth is in Yarra Ranges, with a strip on its western side in Maroondah.
Can I book hard rubbish whenever I like?
In Knox, Maroondah, Whitehorse and Manningham you book it. Yarra Ranges collects once a year by area and can’t be booked. Monash ran a yearly collection by area in 2026 and moves to bookings from 2027; until then it offers paid extra collections.
